"In March of 2020, I get a piano for my birthday. A few days later, a confinement puts my daily life on hold. And so I start to learn this instrument and, without much discipline, I memorize some pieces which I start repeating on a loop, then I wander, and invent little refrains for the pleasure of playing. I record these on a dictaphone for micro-cassettes in the months between the spring and winter confinements as a way of measuring my progress but also to keep a memory of that which I am often unable to re play. The good thing about the piano is that once it's in one place, it stays there, and so any sound that comes out of the piano also comes out of the room. On these recordings we hear the sound of life in 2020 outside my open window, occasionally my cat and other times Manon, the floor of the living room cracking, my fingers tapping the touch, my breath."

“En mars 2020, on m’offre un piano pour mon anniversaire. Quelques jours plus tard, un confinement vient mettre mon quotidien en pause. Je me mets alors à l'apprentissage de l'instrument, et, sans grande discipline, je retiens quelques morceaux que je répète en boucle, puis je divague, et invente de petites ritournelles qui me font plaisir à jouer. Je les enregistre sur un dictaphone à micro-cassettes, et ce pendant plusieurs mois, jusqu'à un autre confinement, plus tard l’hiver, un peu pour mesurer mes progrès, mais aussi pour me souvenir de ce que, bien souvent, je suis incapable de rejouer. Ce qu'il y a de bien avec le piano, c'est qu'une fois qu'il est à un endroit, il y reste, et qu’ainsi tout son qui en sort est aussi celui de la pièce dans laquelle le piano vit. Sur ces enregistrements, on entend donc, le bruit de la vie en 2020 derrière la fenêtre ouverte, mon chat parfois, Manon d'autres fois, le sol du salon qui craque, mes doigts qui tapent les touches, mon souffle. ”
